When cold weather approaches, getting the house ready for winter is a concern. Nobody likes to see surprises in the monthly utility bills. As prices begin to rises, there are some small things that can be done around the house that will make big impact. Making doors and windows weather proof can be done with easy spray foam insulation kits.
You have seen these spray foam insulation kits in the home improvement store and seem to always mean to pick one up and it never gets done. The weather is cool but not cold and there are a million other things you need to do or would rather do. Getting the house up to speed for winter is put on the back burner.
The deal is that spray foam insulation kits do not take a lot of time. Really. Check your windows for air leaks. Chances are you already know where they are. For instance, if you are in the living room by a window and snow is getting all over, that's probably a sign.
Go to the store and get a spray foam insulation kit. They are available in cans with special nozzles. Read the directions and then make sure you follow the directions. The stuff comes out of the can fast so be ready. A little extender comes with the kit that can be attached to the nozzle when you want to get into cracks and crevices you can't see. The stuff expands upon contact with with so a little goes a long way.
The contents in the spray foam insulation kits is sticky so make sure you got it going where you want it to go. While a little goes a long ways, there is not much in one can. You may want to find another area to use the foam if one area has already been completed and you have leftovers.
