Below is a quick guide to getting the best out of your kitchen hob with cleaning and maintenance tips for preserving your appliance.
Electric hobs: Wipe the surface of the hob around the rings after use, using a damp cloth. Turn off the electricity and cleanse the plates with a scouring pad and a cream cleaner. Any rings that are removable can be taken apart and washed in soapy water.
Make sure everything is put back into place correctly before switching the electricity back on.
Aga hobs: Use a damp cloth to wipe up any spills as they occur. Remember that an Aga is always on, so make sure to use a thick cloth so as not to burn your hands on the heat. Clean the enamel parts with a cream cleanser weekly, and also the chrome lids and rail. Try cooking at moderate temperatures always to reduce the risk of splatter.
Gas hobs: Always wipe down your gas hob quickly after use, especially if there has been a spillage during cooking. Use a liquid cleaner and a damp cloth for best results. Try using a nylon scourer for any burnt on patches, and also sprinkle a little salt on to any spills to soak up the grease.
Weekly, take off all the pan supports, burner caps and heads from the hob and wash these as well. The pan supports can be washed in hot water, and the burner caps and hob rings should be cleansed using a brillo pad.
