Maybe it sounds all too stressful at the idea of having to organise one and entertaining guests so that you are overwhelmed by it. Hosting a picnic outside in your own garden is not easy to handle for everyone, especially a picnic which has a lot of guests. When hosting a picnic for friends or family, you need to take a lot of important factors into consideration before planning one. The first factor to consider is that as a host of a picnic, you need to determine the number of guests you wish to entertain and make sure it is a size that you can handle. The number you choose is important so you know just about how many guests to expect and how to plan every stage of your picnic, also if it is a good idea to hold a picnic in the first place. Start off by making a rough estimate on paper of who you would like to invite. You should concern yourself with choosing to host a small picnic to start out with for the first time, only inviting your nearest and dearest family and friends. This might be a better idea than going for a larger picnic before you have had the experience of hosting one.
Once your guest list is complete and you know the numbers, you need to decide on the best location to accomodate everyone. There are many locations that are suitable to have a picnic. You could choose a local park that you are familiar with or a state park, a nearby lake or pond area, a campground park which are usually suitably designed for picnics or if is large enough, your own back garden may be suffice. Once you have set yourself on how many guests you are inviting, the location is your next decision to make. The number of people who are attending will determine what location is best in terms of size. You may decide that a state park is much better than your own garden if you are having a large picnic.
When hosting a picnic, besides the guest list and the location, you will need to think about the food and drink you are going to provide, and how much costs will be involved for all the supplies. As a host, it is up to you what kind of foods you would like to offer, or you may have a special theme in mind. You should have a budget in mind according to how many guests you have as you don't want to overspend, and it serves as a guide when you decide on what to buy. Focussing on spending will make sure you have enough and that you are not going over what you can afford.
For a picnic, food and drink is important as you want to serve something that gives your guests a choice. You can choose from sandwich meats as well as barbecued foods. For drinks, you can buy large bottles of water, or soft drinks that are popular to share around. You may also want to use disposeable cups and plates so that they can just be thrown away afterwards. You may have decided on a 'Bring and Share' picnic so that your guests can all bring something and then you can all share. This will cut down on what you need to buy. You can always provide the main foods and ask guests to bring a side dish or desserts, and some extra drinks.
